Isn’t it true that over the centuries, people have adored the Creation? But I maintain that His creation is to be enjoyed, not adored. I really enjoy sitting out on my deck, facing the woods and the trees, absorbed in what God has created. But to worship a tree or an idol that man has carved from the tree seems strange. I really enjoy sitting on the beach and staring at the horizon line where the heavens and the seas meet.
In the first few verses of Genesis…
–Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
Amazing to behold. But for the purpose of worshiping the One who made it. Not to substitute love, adoration, and thanksgiving to the creation itself. No, to the One who created it.

Romans 1 begins a discourse in verse 20 on those who “worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator”.
–For since the creation of the world His invisible [attributes] are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify [Him] as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man–and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
So, how about you? The Scriptures declare that the Word created everything that is (John 1) and that He came and dwelt among us, then died for our sins. And that he who has the Son has the life, and he that doesn’t have the Son, does not have the life. Zoe life – the absolute life that God has in Himself and gives to us in Christ. Jesus Christ, the resurrected Son of the Living God, uniquely-begotten and raised back to life after dying to purchase redemption with His precious blood. Do you know Him?
